Wendy Payne
Wendy Payne joined the Temple Shomer Emunim staff in July of 2007 as the Religious Education
Director. Prior to her current position she was active in the Temple Religious School since 1996.
Wendy grew up at Temple Shomer Emunim. She started as a student in the religious school continuing
through her Bat Mitzvah and Confirmation. She was a teaching assistant in the religious school her
junior and senior years of high school.
Wendy has been married to her husband John for 17 years and has three children. Breanna (21), Emma
(15) and Jacob (13). Her Bachelor’s degree is from Lourdes College in Elementary Education. Wendy has
taken continuing education classes at Hebrew College and Lourdes University.

Dr. Julie Kalniz
Dr. Julie Kalniz has been Secretary of the Executive Committee of The Temple Congregation Shomer Emunim since June of 2021. Prior to that she was on the Temple board for many years. She has also previously been on the Board of The Toledo Jewish Federation and Toledo Jewish Family Services.
She was born in Cleveland and was raised going to Fairmount Temple in Beachwood, Ohio. She graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Biology and then earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University in 1999. She is a small animal Veterinarian at West Suburban Animal Hospital in Sylvania.
Her husband, Scott, grew up in Sylvania and was Consecrated, became a Bar Mitzvah and Confirmed at The Temple. She has three children (Abby, Sammy and Zach) who also had all three milestones at The Temple.
